Its been a long time since my last update, I have unfortunatelly been rather busy with work wedding and christmas/new years. Today also makes it less that 2 months to my wedding, and we are still both in a mad rush organising things. While we have basically booked everything now it is all the small difficult things that remain. - Choosing our vows
- Choosing the music for the various parts of the ceremony and reception.
- Finalising photo locations with the photographer.
- Finalising details with the wedding car to accomodate the confirmed photo locations.
- Finalising details with the Florist
- Getting a matching ribbon to go with our wedding cake.
- Organising someone to help pack the gift boxes on the morning of the wedding.
- Setting up a schedule with the MC
- Choosing my speech.
- Organising accomodation & picking up Sonia's family and one of her bridesmaids.
- Paying for it all.
All this will inevitably take quite a bit of time, but its nearly done. Other things that have kept me busy over the last 2 months have been creating our wedding website (http://wedding.sobenz.co.nz) and a typical crazy week before christmas product release that seems to happen every year. On the fitness side of things I have continued to do some running. Currently I have a schedule of running on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday where I have been running a 6-7km course on the weekdays and a 10km course on Saturday. Because of the heat I have been starting my runs at just before 6am, but once it starts getting cooler again will swap to evening runs. Its also for this reason that I am not running on Sunday as I still want to have one day where I have the option of sleeping in. All up I have been only doing a ~22km weeks but I will get this closer to 30km once I add Sunday back in. |

Ever since I was a wee lad I have been a big fan of Tolkien. From the first time I read 'The Hobbit' when I was about 7 right up till now the world of Middle Earth has enthralled me. It was this introduction to fantasy worlds above and beyond fairy tails that got me interested in other fantasy worlds and fantasy games. A couple of years ago a Turbine, a well known games company, release the Lord of the Ring MMO game and more recently the first expansion for the game 'The Mines of Moria'. In this game you can create a character of one of the many races of the free people in Middle Earth (Elf, Dwarf, Human, & Hobbit) and go and explore Middle Earth during the timeline of the Lord of the Rings storyline. Rather than taking the role of one of the main characters from the storyline of the book you create a character who takes a supporting role in assisting the fellowship from behind the scenes and helping in side plots that are never fully explored in the book. Not taking the role of a main character gives the game designers a much greater level of creative freedom in creating stories and quests for the game without conflicting with the storyline itself. In future posts I will include some screen shots of some of the more famous locations in the game as mentioned in the book such as Bag-End, Weathertop, Rivendell etc. |

Well, its been a good weekend. I managed to take my investment portfolio up from $160 to $220 with the election results. My prediction with a National win but without a decisive majority, and Peters not making it back to parliament all paid dividends. More money was made with short selling the Maori seats as I was doubtful that they would get 4% of the party vote also paid out. I made most of my money however on the market with the Maori Party - National Party coalition stock where I had predicted no agreement between the parties. I bought this stock at about 25c and it peaked at 80c just prior to John Key's victory speech. Unfortunatelly I did not sell it till a bit later by which time it had dropped to 50c ... still a 100% gain. New stocks about the Labour leadership had become available where I have gone with Phil Goff for the leader position Annette King for the deputy leader and shorted Maryan Street. (It seems not many people had cottoned on to the fact that she has said she is not running for the deputy leader position, so shorting the stock at 25c will return a healthy proffit). |

Initially I have gone with the following, lets hope they pay off :) - Short sold National having a parliamentary majority
- Short sold Winston Peters returning as an MP.
- Short sold the Maori Party vote. (Expecting it to be less than 4%)
- Short sold the chance of the Maori Party making a supply & confidence agreement with National.
- Bought shares in National governing with no agreement with the Maori Party.
I will also buy some shares in John Key being the next PM should the price drop a bit lower. |

I am glad that Obama won the US Presidential elections. This is not just because I dislike the Republican party in the US, but also because the feeling of change that has surged around the world in recent days can only help remove the Labour party from government in New Zealand. I myself am very much a centerist / center rightist in political views. With both Labour and National bending much towards the center in recent years there is actually very little different between these two parties. So why then the time for change? Surely the status quo is acceptable? My decision on who I support then comes down to two concerns. - The other political parties that will be rquired if any to form the government and their relative clout.
- and to a lesser extent the personalities of the political parties.
